Get Ready for the 2018-2019 Ski Season!

EMBK is preparing for the 2018-2019 ski season and we hope to help your family get signed-up and geared-up for the winter.  Here are some key areas of interest:

Registration — Opens September 26th
Registration will open on September 26th. Please register early if you’re able—early fall registration helps us to better plan for the season.  Please watch our Google Group postings in late September (notification in your email) for the registration link.  Special note for fall roller skiing:  All skiers who plan to roller ski with EMBK must be registered before they will be allowed to roller ski.

Volunteer opportunities
We are an all-volunteer club. We rely on parents to volunteer each year to coach, organize specific activities and events, or help with club management and operations. Great opportunities exist this year to get involved with other skiing families. Currently we need help with:

  • Coordinating club participation at the BKL Festival (helping organize the food table, and distribution of race bibs/packets) March 2-3, 2019
  • Webmaster
  • Team/Country Parent liaison

Check out the volunteer page on the EMBK website ( and contact Cécile Tucker at if you can help!
Need New CoachesWe welcome and need new coaches. You don’t need to be an expert skier. We have a wide range of skier groups you can coach. Young skiers who have aged out of EMBK but not moved on to CSU are also encouraged to become assistant coaches with Team USA (7-8 year olds). We ask new coaches to attend the coaches’ clinic on Oct 27 (see schedule). Anyone thinking about coaching is encouraged to attend!  If you haven’t coached with us in the past, but would like to, please contact Jim Stock at

Dec 9 All-Club Practice

We look forward to seeing all of our EMBK skiers and families at our second all-club practice at Leo J. Martin Ski Track this Saturday, Dec 9, from 9am – 10:30am. Please look at our website before all practices to get the final call on practice type (e.g. dry land, skate, classic or combo) .

Also, please remind your kids to dress in layers, wear good running shoes, bring the appropriate ski gear (per website instructions) and bring their water bottles.

Overall Schedule:

8-9 am Roller ski (returning skiers only, age 11+)
8:30 am Pick-up trail passes in the cafe (for pre-register) or submit applications
9 am All-club practice: Break into country groups for training

Waxing Clinic

We will hold another waxing clinic for parents during practice on Saturday. We plan to focus on on the art of kick wax and klister application, followed by “frustration free removal.” If you are new to skiing or just have questions, please stop by the wax tent at 9:15 am.

Parent Volunteers are Essential: Test the Waters With Easy, Fun Volunteer Opportunities (Info Session, Dec 9, 10am in Cafe)

Our club is entirely parent-run. We need all families to donate a parent’s time and skills to keep EMBK running smoothly. We still have vacancies in a number of simple, but critical volunteer roles.

As examples, being a Country Parent or helping with weekly games at practice, are great ways to jump into the EMBK volunteer waters! Come learn more about various volunteer opportunities in the Cafe at 10am on Dec 9.

Also, if you selected “country parent” as your potential volunteer interest during registration, please join us for this discussion for more details about your responsibilities. If you cannot make the meeting, please contact Josie Petersen, our Country Parent Coordinator.
