Governance Board of EMBKL

History of the Board

In March of 2006, following the Bill Koch Festival, several parents of EMBKL skiers felt that because of the growing size of the club it was important to form a governance board. This was discussed among the parents and agreed upon. Nominations for board membership was solicited. 6 people were nominated and agreed to serve on the board. The first board meeting was held on 4/9/2006.

Board Membership (per decision at 4/9/2006 meeting):

· CSU head coach

· 3-5 parents of current EMBKL skiers

· One former EMBKL parent, whose child has graduated out of the club.

· Board chair should be a parent.

· The board should not include the two main staff members (Head Coach and Event and Volunteer Coordinator).

· New board membership is determined by a majority vote of the board.

· Nominations for board membership come from EMBKL club membership.

Responsibilities of the Board

· Responsible for general governance issues.

· Selection of Head Coach and Event and Volunteer Coordinator.

· General policy issues.

· Coordination with NENSA.

· Approval of the budget.

· The chair of the board is also District Chair and the EMBKL representative to the NENSA BKYSL committee.

· The board generally meets twice a year.
